Ten years ago I was going through an extremely painful breakup. It was especially painful because I thought I would never find myself in this position again. I was deep in the mud—heartbroken, lost, and feeling like a failure.
 
Every morning I walked into a coffee shop on 18th Street in the Castro district in San Francisco to read a book. It was during one of my morning sessions at the café that I experienced an awakening of some sort. I saw my life as a holographic theater. I was the director, screenwriter, leading actress, and casting agent. All the people on stage (and in my real life) were part of my play, the one I chose to create and were cast by me.
 
This was a gigantic moment for me personally. I realized that if I am both consciousness (the witness) and unconsciousness (the victim) actualized in one body, I am capable of anything. I was the only one who knew what I needed to experience in this lifetime in order to learn my way back to freedom.
 
So, I had chosen this man (and many others prior to him—God bless them all!) to demonstrate, once again, what it felt like to be rejected. I was reminded again what happens when I abandon myself in relationship. I was reminded that not listening to my intuition is never a good idea. This is not spiritual bypassing. This event moved the needle just enough so I could learn to work with my shadow.

I finally saw that I am the common denominator in all my relationships. I finally took responsibility for my breakups. I didn’t do this to blame myself, but to strengthen myself.

I knew I needed to re-write my love story. I'm sharing the way I did it with you so we can all gain understanding, feel compassion, and experience greater love.
