I once fasted for 40 days.

I didn't do it to lose weight but to get closer to god.

It made me question where my energy comes from. If it did not come from my daily coffee and a muffin and smoked salmon, from where then?

It helped me break free from the mental and emotional barriers that had kept me attached to things that were impermanent. Ever-changing. Constantly in flux.

As a result, I found myself anchoring my entire being deeper into "the unchangeable" –

the part of me that was the witness.

Let me tell you, it was not easy. I even threw a cucumber on the wall, really hard.

While picking up the slimy pieces I reached a point of total calm.

I think it was god ;)

And now, ten years later, as I drink my coffee and eat my muffin, I am truly grateful for the myriad ways life has taught me about letting go.

It's the energetic weight that often keeps us from experiencing what we truly want in life.

The good news is, you do not need to fast for 40 days. You can start anywhere.

You can start with clutter. Clutter in your closets, in your car, on your desk, and the four corners of your home.

Clutter in your social life and communication.

Clutter in your inbox.

Clutter in your mind.
